VLADIVOSTOK, December 30. /TASS/. Combat crews of the anti-aircraft missile regiment of Russia’s Eastern Military District have conducted an exercise in the Khabarovsk region to destroy air targets of an imaginary enemy by the S-300 air defense missiles systems, spokesman for the military district Colonel Alexander Gordeyev said on Wednesday. The missile crews got an "excellent" mark for the drills, he added.

"In the course of combat training troops soldiers engaged the S-300 on anti-aircraft missile systems to drill actions to intercept an imaginary enemy aircraft that violates the country’s aerospace, track the air target and destroy it in a simulated attack. The drills also involved radar units that had the mission to detect air targets," Gordeyev said.

According to him, the drills with the so-called "electronic launches" tested cohesion and interaction of the crews and alert forces. The troops had also the proficiency and combat readiness tests in which they practiced repositioning and avoiding the imaginary enemy’s retaliation attack. The combat crews got an "excellent" mark for their actions, Gordeyev said.

The S-300 surface-to-air missile system is capable of shooting down ballistic and aerodynamic threats. It is designed to provide air defense for major industrial and administrative installations, military bases and command posts. S-300 crews are on alert round the clock in Russia’s Far Eastern Khabarovsk region.
