ARHANGELSK, December 2. /TASS/. The advanced Akademik Kovalev armament support ship built by the Zvezdochka shipyard in northern Russia’s Severodvinsk has completed state trials in the sea and will join the Russian Navy on December 18, the shipyard’s press service said on Wednesday.

The contract for building the newest vessel of Project 20180TV for the Russian Defense Ministry was signed on September 15, 2011. The reinforced ice class vessel is used for loading, unloading and sea transportation of armaments. The ship was laid down in December 2011.

The shipyard is now building the third and fourth armament support ships of the project - the Akademik Alexandrov and the Akademik Makeyev. During the construction of the latter, the main imported parts will be replaced, the shipyard said.
