MOSCOW, September 14. /TASS/. A group of Northern Fleet warships has reached Russia’s New Siberian archipelago to practice an amphibious Arctic landing exercise with the support of aircraft, Fleet spokesman Vadim Serga said on Monday.
"At present, the ships of the group are completing preparations for the exercise dubbed "Amphibious assault landing onto rough terrain," the spokesman said.
During the exercise, Arctic brigade marine units supported by the group’s warships and aircraft will land from large amphibious ships Georgy Pobedonosets and Kondopoga on Kotelny Island, secure a position on the shore and conduct a march towards the field camp," he said.
The warships and vessels anchored off Kotelny Island in Stakhanovtsy Arctic Bay, he said.
The servicemen from the Arctic brigade will take part in the amphibious operation on this island for the first time, Serga added.
