CIS foreign ministers unanimously call for stepping up struggle against terrorism

Sergey Lebedev pointed to the confidential nature of the exchange of views that took place during the meeting

MINSK, April 12. /TASS/. All participants in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in Minsk emphasized the need for consolidating efforts in the fight against international terrorism, CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev has said.

"All speakers expressed condolences to the Russian side in connection with the terrorist attack [in the Moscow Region] and emphasized the need for consolidating our efforts in the fight against international terrorism," he told the media.

Lebedev said the CIS foreign ministers also noted that terrorism had no nationality and that the CIS countries "should resist any attempts to drive a wedge between peoples."

"This proposal and the desire to consolidate our efforts, to intensify our cooperation in the fight against terrorism was supported by all heads of delegations of the Commonwealth countries," he noted.

The CIS secretary-general pointed to the confidential nature of the exchange of views that took place during the meeting.

"Special thanks to [Belarusian Foreign Minister] Sergey Aleinik, who proposed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall," Lebedev said.

The heads and representatives of foreign ministries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated in the Ministerial Council’s session.
