Russian nuclear-powered sub launches Kalibr, Oniks missiles in state trials — source

The nuclear-powered sub fired one missile from a torpedo tube and the other from a launcher, the source specified

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. A Project 885M (Yasen-M) nuclear-powered submarine test-launched Kalibr-PL and Oniks missiles in state trials, a source close to Russia’s Defense Ministry told TASS on Tuesday.

"The nuclear-powered submarine Krasnoyarsk successfully conducted solo launches of a Kalibr-PL cruise missile and an Oniks supersonic missile from its submerged position in the White Sea during state trials several days ago," the source said.

TASS has no official confirmation of this information yet.

The nuclear-powered sub fired one missile from a torpedo tube and the other from a launcher, the source specified.

As another source told TASS, the nuclear-powered submarine Krasnoyarsk is set to make a transit to the Russian Pacific Fleet in 2024 after the end of state tests and its delivery to the Navy.

The Sevmash Shipyard in Russia’s northwest is currently building six Project 885M nuclear-powered submarines. The nuclear-powered subs Severodvinsk (Project 885), Kazan and Novosibirsk (Project 885M) have already been delivered to the Navy.

Beginning with the nuclear-powered submarine Perm, the sixth in the Yasen/Yasen-M series, the subs of this Project will be the carriers of state-of-the-art Tsirkon hypersonic missiles.
