Russia’s nuclear forces exercise on Wednesday was pre-scheduled, Kremlin spokesman says

The exercise involved the forces and means of the ground, sea and airborne components of the nuclear deterrent force

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. The exercises of the Russian strategic nuclear deterrent forces, which took place on Wednesday and were supervised by Russian President Vladimir Putin, had been scheduled in advance, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"They were scheduled in advance. They are held regularly every year," he said to a question on the subject.

According to Peskov, the drill achieved good results.

"All goals set for the exercise were accomplished," he said.

The exercise involved the forces and means of the ground, sea and airborne components of the nuclear deterrent force. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said it included rehearsing a massive nuclear strike by strategic offensive forces in retaliation for an enemy strike. The exercise involved a Yars mobile ground-based missile system, the Northern Fleet strategic missile submarine Tula and two Tu-95MS strategic jets capable of carrying bombs and missiles.
