MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russia’s arms manufacturers in January-March provided more than 500 pieces of new weapons and equipment, including cruise missiles Kalibr, coastal missile system Bastion and tens of planes and helicopters, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday.
"Today we are reviewing the military equipment and infrastructures that have been accepted for use in the first quarter of this year. Over the reviewed period the defense industries provided more than 500 new and about 50 overhauled weapons and pieces of military and special equipment," Shoigu said.
In particular, he mentioned 48 cruise missiles Kalibr, one coastal missile system Bastion, 13 planes of different class, 31 helicopters Mi-28, Mi-35M and Mi-8 of different configurations, and 540 wheeled vehicles Tigr, Ural and Kamaz.
"Also, the armed forces obtained engineering equipment and motor vehicles, communications and aviation equipment and ammunition," Shoigu said.
At the international military-technical forum Army-2019 visitors were able to take a closer look at the technical and combat capabilities of most newest samples of Russian military hardware.
As he opened the military equipment acceptance meeting, Shoigu congratulated everybody upon the International Day of Human Space Flight.
"April 12 is one of the most memorable days in the history of the human race. Many outstanding scientists and talented engineers and designers focused their knowledge and effort on the development of the national space industry. Their persistent hard work let our nation make the most important discoveries and achievements in the space sphere," Shoigu said.
He voiced the certainty that the "accrued experienced and the powerful research and technological potential and high professionalism of space rocket industry workers will maintain and strengthen Russia’s defenses and security further on.".
