Russian cruise missile frigate repels air attack in Black Sea drills

The Black Sea Fleet’s Su-24M frontline bomber simulated an enemy aircraft in the drills

SEVASTOPOL, April 3. /TASS/. The Russian Black Sea Fleet’s Project 11356 frigate Admiral Grigorovich armed with Kalibr cruise missiles destroyed a notional enemy’s bomber in the Black Sea drills, the Fleet’s press office reported on Wednesday.

The Black Sea Fleet’s Su-24M frontline bomber simulated an enemy aircraft in the drills, the press office specified.

"Under the drills’ scenario, a notional enemy’s aircraft approached to deliver a bomb strike against the ship. The Admiral Grigorovich’s crew got reconnaissance data on the plane, detected and locked on the air target," the press office said in a statement.

The frigate’s air defense teams fired the Shtil-1 surface-to-air missile system against the bomber before the Su-24M launched its attack. The target was successfully destroyed by a missile’s electronic launch, the press office specified.

The frigate was performing assignments in the Black Sea in accordance with the Fleet’s combat training plan, the press office added.

The Admiral Grigorovich is the Project 11356 lead frigate (the guard ship according to the domestic classification). The warship displaces more than 4,000 tonnes and is 125 meters long. The frigate is armed with the Kalibr-NK cruise missile system.
