MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. More than 30 crews of tactical aircraft and over 20 teams of S-300PM surface-to-air missile systems have been put on high alert in tactical drills in several Russian regions, the press office of the Western Military District reported on Tuesday.

"The personnel of S-300PM battalions performed assignments with technical calculations to intercept, track and destroy a notional enemy’s aircraft and helicopters in the Voronezh, Kursk, Tver and Leningrad Regions and in the Republic of Karelia upon the delivery of missiles to the launching positions, and also thwarted an attack of subversion groups supported by a notional enemy’s aircraft," the statement says.

For this purpose, the pilots of Su-23, Su-34, Su-25, Su-27 and Su-30SM aircraft simulating an enemy made raids on decoy, camouflaged and launching sites of S-300PM launchers and command posts.

At the concluding stage of the drills, air defense teams will prevent an enemy’s missile and bomb strike against an allied grouping’s non-ground targets and shield launcher vehicles from precision weapons.

Overall, the drills involve over a thousand air defense troops and aviation of the Western Military District, and also more than 30 aircraft and 200 pieces of military hardware.
