Rostec designs control system for access to schools based on facial recognition

In case the camera registers an unauthorized visitor or the metal detector identifies banned objects, a signal will be immediately transmitted to the security post

MOSCOW, February 7. /TASS/. The concern Avtomatika (part of Rostec) has developed a system of noncontact control over access to educational facilities based on facial recognition technology, Rostec said in a report.

"The system consists of a metal detector equipped with a video camera which is linked to the facial recognition system. Teachers and school students who will use Rostec’s development will not have to carry pass cards with them, as the system automatically identifies a person," the report says.

In case the camera registers an unauthorized visitor or the metal detector identifies banned objects, a signal will be immediately transmitted to the security post. "If the security officer does not switch off the alarm system in the specified period of time, a report of violation will be transmitted to 112 system. The system’s algorithm makes it possible to compare the images received by the cameras with thousands of records in the data bases and identify a person in a fraction of a second, which will make it possible to avoid ‘jams’ when entering school," the report says.

Another development of Avtomatika - an iris recognition system - may also be used in Russian schools. "This solution may find wider application and be used both for control over entry to school and for access to closed facilities, as an identifier for paying for dinners in the canteen of an educational facility and before entering a lecture hall for examination or tests," Rostec noted.

The concern Avtomatika focuses on information security and the design and production of technical means and systems of confidential communication, protected information-telecommunication systems and systems of special-purpose automated management.
