More than 5,000 Russian servicemen take part in Central Military District drills

The Central Military District is located on the territory of three Russian federal districts and 29 regions

YEKATERINBURG, January 17. /TASS/. More than 5,000 servicemen of the joint strategic command of the Central Military District are taking part in a massive exercise which was launched on Thursday, the district’s press service said in a report.

"More than 5,000 servicemen are training the different levels of the army’s activation. Officers of the joint strategic command are training to provide comprehensive support, cooperation and command over the assigned troops. More than 15 field mobile command posts were set up at the district’s ranges at which the automated systems of command over the military district’s troops and digital communication means are being tried out," the report says.

The district specified that the training is being held under the operation of commander of the Central Military District’s forces Lieutenant General Alexander Lapin.

It was earlier reported that the preparation of the military command bodies and troops was launched for the maneuvers "Center-2019," which will be carried out gradually through four stages of combat training. At the first stage, the major efforts will be directed at preparing military command bodies and troops for carrying out actions for the transfer from peace to war time to overcome crisis situations. In August - September 2019 the strategic command-staff exercise "Center" will be carried out on the territory of the Central Military District, which will become the main test of the Russian army’s combat readiness in 2019.

The Central Military District is located on the territory of three Russian federal districts and 29 regions. The district includes some transboundary facilities, such as the 201st military base on Tajikistan’s territory, the joint base Kant in Kyrgyzstan and units on Kazakhstan’s territory.
