Russia's large anti-submarine ship arrives in Sevastopol after six-month voyage

SEVASTOPOL, January 10. /TASS/. The Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship of Russia’s Northern Fleet arrived in Sevastopol on Thursday, having completed a six-month voyage, a TASS correspondent reported.

The ship, which entered the Sevastopol Bay at around 09:15 Moscow time, was welcomed by sailors of the Black Sea Fleet and a military band. The crew was greeted by Black Sea Fleet Commander Alexander Moiseyev and Northern Fleet Deputy Commander Vice Admiral Viktor Sokolov.

The ship is expected to stay in Sevastopol for about a month. During that time it will be under the Black Sea Fleet’s operational control.

The ship’s voyage began last July. From September to December, the crew accomplished missions to fight piracy and ensure civil vessels’ safety in the Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, the Red and Arabian Seas. The sailors saw in the New Year in in the Mediterranean Sea.

During the voyage, the Severomorsk covered over 30,000 nautical miles, calling at the ports of Algiers, Victoria, Pemba, Antsiranana, Djibouti, Karachi and Limassol. Its crew took part in the Arabian Monsoon-2018 Russian-Pakistani drills in the Indian Ocean and in the Russian Navy’s inter-fleet exercise in the Mediterranean Sea.
