Russian military keeps close watch on US destroyer in Sea of Japan, says Defense Ministry

MOSCOW, December 6. /TASS/. The Russian military keeps a close watch on the US destroyer The McCampbell, which on Thursday allegedly approached a Russian military base in the Primorye Region. Currently the destroyer is 400 kilometers away from the Russian shore in the central part of the Sea of Japan, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

"The Pacific Fleet has taken a package of measures to monitor the movements of this and other naval ships in the given area with ground and other means," he said.

Throughout its voyage in international waters the US destroyer was escorted by the Russian Pacific Fleet’s anti-submarine ship The Admiral Tributs and the Pacific Fleet’s naval aviation, Konashenkov said.
