Putin orders enhancing energy facilities’ protection against terrorist attacks

The head of state particularly emphasized the need to fight against corruption

NOVO-OGARYOVO, November 29. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has handed down instructions to enhance the protection of energy facilities against terrorist attacks.

"Energy infrastructure requires the highest level of security, so all the responsible agencies must remain composed and alert, particularly during the autumn and winter seasons," Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council.

"There is a need to significantly increase the protection of energy facilities against terrorist attacks, man-made disasters and other potential threats," he added.

According to the head of state, "better training of personnel, close monitoring of the compliance with security rules, the implementation of all technological and technical requirements," as well as "regular trainings and drills" could help accomplish the task and prevent "negative developments."

The president particularly emphasized the need to fight against corruption. "We certainly need to make consistent efforts to drive corruption, all kinds of shady schemes and criminal risks out of the energy sector," Putin said.

He said he intended to listen to what monitoring and law enforcement agencies have to offer in that regard.
