Troops in west Russia to use advanced air reconnaissance drone for first time in drills

The control check of UAV units of a Special Operations brigade from the Western Military District involves over 15 unmanned aerial vehicles

MOSCOW, October 22. /TASS/. Teams of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Special Operations Forces of Russia’s Western Military District will use the advanced Granat-4 air reconnaissance drone in drills in the Tambov Region for the first time, the District’s press office reported on Monday.

"The servicemen will move as part of combat groups to the designated areas and accomplish the required standards for preparing the drone for its launch, loading electronic maps, providing target acquisition and guidance. During the air reconnaissance, the servicemen will search for engineering fortifications and combat hardware of a notional enemy whose actions will be simulated by reconnaissance units," the District’s press office said.

Overall, the control check of UAV units of a Special Operations brigade from the Western Military District involves more than 15 unmanned aerial vehicles, including Eleron, Grusha and Orlan-10 drones.

The Granat-4 is a Russian multipurpose drone designed to conduct tactical reconnaissance of the terrain, carry out patrol and observation flights, search and rescue operations. The drone is equipped with optical and infrared cameras and can be furnished with electronic warfare equipment. The drone can fly for six hours at a speed of up to 140 km/h.
