Russian Navy makes over 180 sorties in Syria operation — top brass

MOSCOW, August 22. /TASS/. More than 80 warships and 14 submarines of the Russian Navy took part in 189 combat missions during the Syria operation, according to a video posted by the Defense Ministry of Russia on Wednesday.

"The Russian Navy made 189 sorties that involved 86 ships, 14 submarines and 83 vessels," the video says.

"On November 15, 2016, the deck-based fighter jets of the heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov were employed for the first time in Russia’s history against ground objectives. Over two months, the cruiser’s pilots performed 420 sorties, including 117 at night. A total of 1,252 terrorists were eliminated," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
