State corp. Rostec unveils new projectiles for Tornado-G multiple rocket launcher

Tornado-G is designed to destroy and suppress an enemy’s manpower and its armor, artillery and mortar batteries, and also command posts

KUBINKA /Moscow Region/, August 22. /TASS/. The Techmash arms company within the Russian State Corporation Rostec has unveiled three types of projectiles for Russia’s new-generation Tornado-G multiple rocket launcher.

Although Tornado-G officially entered service in 2014, its projectiles have not been showcased until recently.

"There are three types of projectiles, and this is the first time that we show them to the public," Techmash Director General Vladimir Lepin said.

The advanced 120-mm Tornado-G multiple rocket launcher has been designed to replace the classical Grad systems. Its combat efficiency is estimated to be 2.5-3 times higher than that of its predecessors due to a better fire control system and automated guidance, targeting and navigation systems.

The Tornado-G is designed to destroy and suppress an enemy’s manpower and its armor, artillery and mortar batteries, and also command posts.

The combat vehicle is equipped with an automated fire control and aiming system and launching equipment which make the process of aiming the guiding cluster and the shooting process itself fully automatic; they also make it possible to establish autonomous survey control, orient the combat vehicle on the terrain and reflect the necessary topographic situation on an electronic map as well as ensure remote input of the assigned flight data to an exploder and launch newly-designed projectiles without any need for the crew to dismount and leave the combat vehicle.

The guiding cluster of the Tornado-G combat vehicle consists of 40 launching tubes. The system’s 122-mm caliber makes it possible to operate both Tornado-G and Grad projectiles.

The Army-2018 defense forum will be held in the town of Kubinka, the Patriot Park and the Alabino training ground near Moscow on August 21-26.
