MOSCOW, August 16. /TASS/. Russia’s state arms seller Rosoboronexport has started to offer the Sprut-SDM1 self-propelled anti-tank gun produced by the Tractor Plants Group on the global arms market, with several countries in Southeast Asia already showing their interest in the new weapon, the Rosoboronexport press office said on Thursday.

"This is a unique weapon that has no analogs in the world. The Sprut-SDM1 is the sole light floating combat vehicle in its class possessing the firepower of the main battle tank," the press office quoted Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheyev as saying.

"It can be landed from a ship and can operate day and night on the terrain inaccessible for other similar vehicles. Rosoboronexport expects enhanced interest in this product from countries with complex geographical conditions combining the presence of water obstacles, bogs and mountains. Specifically, some states in Southeast Asia are already displaying interest in the Sprut-SDM1," Mikheyev said.

The Sprut-SDM1 is designated to provide fire support for troops, fight the armor, destroy enemy strongholds and defensive installations, conduct army reconnaissance and battle defense. It is intended for marine infantry, armored units and land troops. The anti-tank vehicle has a powerful weapons suite matching the armament of the main battle tank and comprises the 125mm gun, the remote-controlled 7.62mm machine-gun station and the coaxial 7.62mm machine-gun.

The Sprut-SDM1 is furnished with the missile armament designated to hit armored targets, including those outfitted with the explosive reactive armor, at distances of up to 5 km.

The vehicle’s modern highly automated digital fire control system allows detecting, identifying and destroying targets in a stationary position and on the move and amid poor visibility using the gunner’s and commanders’ sights of various types.

The Sprut-SDM1 features enhanced protection for this type of vehicles. Its small weight and the ability to negotiate water obstacles afloat ensure its high terrain crossing capacity.

The Sprut-SDM1 is capable of conducting combat operations in high mountain terrain and in a hot tropical climate and delivering fire from the gun afloat.
