MOSCOW, August 15. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Alexander Fomin has met with EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Florian Ederer on Wednesday. The sides discussed international security and the situation in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry told journalists.

"On August 15, 2018, Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Colonel General Alexander Fomin met with Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation Markus Ederer. The meeting focused on major issues of regional and international security," the Defense Ministry said.

Fomin informed Ederer on the situation in Syria, stressing the importance of the issue of the refugees’ return to the country, in particular from European states. The sides shared their opinions on the situation in the sphere of European security and discussed the practice of cooperation between the Russian Defense Ministry and the European Union in the military sphere.

"The sides agreed to continue contacts," the Defense Ministry noted.
