CIS countries to discuss development of joint air defense system

The meeting’s participants will also assess the Coordination Committee’s activities in 2018 and special aspects of the 2019 joint operational and combat training plan

MINSK, August 14. /TASS/. A meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Defense Ministers’ Council Coordination Committee will discuss the development of the joint air defense system, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"The 49th meeting of the CIS Defense Ministers’ Council Air Defense Coordination Committee, scheduled to be held in Minsk on August 14, will particularly discuss ways for the development and improvement of the CIS joint air defense system," the statement reads.

The meeting will involve delegations representing the defense ministries of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Joint Staff, Russian defense companies and high-ranking officials from the CIS air defense research agency.

"The meeting’s participants will also assess the Coordination Committee’s activities in 2018 and special aspects of the 2019 joint operational and combat training plan, the priorities of air defense research activities and a number of other issues concerning the improvement of the joint air defense system," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
