Defense chief calls International Army Games a holiday of peaceful weapons

Sergei Shoigu thanked all participants in the competitions and judges as well as spectators and TV audiences

KUBINKA /Moscow Region/, August 11. /TASS/. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has described the International Army Games, which ended on Saturday, a holiday of peaceful weapons and awarded the Cup to the winners, the team of the Russian Armed Forces, a TASS correspondent reported.

"Could we imagine when we began and wanted to show the whole world what our guys, our designers and our defense industry are capable of that all that will turn into a wonderful holiday of peaceful weapons. Of course, we couldn’t, but we dreamed about that, and dreams are coming true," Shoigu said presenting the trophy to Russian military servicemen.

Shoigu thanked all participants in the competitions and judges as well as spectators and TV audiences.

"I would like to thank all my counterparts, the ministers who found an opportunity to attend both the opening and closing ceremony," Shoigu said. He described the competitions as a holiday of courage, valor and dignity and declared the Games closed.

The ceremony ended with a 15-minute firework display.

The fourth International Army Games kicked off on July 28. Taking part in 28 events were 189 teams from 32 countries. Russia’s team won a total of 19 gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
