Russian Black Sea Fleet to get six more naval ships by yearend, says commander

SEVASTOPOL, July 29./TASS/. The Russian Black Sea Fleet will get six more ships of different types this year, fleet’s Commander Alexander Moiseyev told reporters on Sunday.

"I will speak about the year 2018 - we have already accepted for service three ships. Of course, this is the frigate [Admiral] Makarov that today takes part in the Main Naval Parade... And of course, this is the medium reconnaissance ship Ivan Khurs, as well as other vessels. We will get six more naval ships of different types this year," the vice admiral said, specifying that he was also referring to small-size missile ships.

He said trials of the Project 22160 lead corvette Vasily Bykov will be ended within the next few months, and the corvette will pass into the Black Sea Fleet service.

Earlier in the day, a parade of naval ships and a military sports festival took place in the Black Sea port city of Sevastopol to mark Navy Day. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev attended the events.

More than 30 warships, submarines and boats, five auxiliary vessels, more than 20 aircraft and over 30 units of military hardware participated.
