Terrorist act averted in Russia’s Dagestan

The bomb disposal technicians from the Federal Security Service have found a homemade explosive device

MOSCOW, October 22 (Itar-Tass). — A terrorist act was averted in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, as a strong bomb was planted not far from the trading centre. “Local residents have found a suspicious object in the form of a 12-litre basket at about 8 a.m. Moscow time on Tuesday in the town of Khasavyurt, 300 meters away from a police post on the Makhachkalinskoye highway (near the trading centre Kirgu),” the information centre of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The bomb disposal technicians from the Federal Security Service have found a homemade explosive device - a basket filled with the mixture of saltpeter and aluminum powder without striking pieces and provided with a detonator and ready for blast.

“The power of the homemade explosive device has made 12 kilograms of TNT,” the information centre said.

The explosive device was defused by the bomb disposal technicians from the Dagestani republican branch of the Federal Security Service by means of a hydrodynamic gun.

The investigation and the search are in progress.
