MP calls for return to daylight-saving time after Olympics

MOSCOW, October 16 (Itar-Tass) - Head of the State Duma Commitee on Industry Sergei Sobko, representing the Communist party faction in Russia's lower house of parliament, has called for a return to the practice of winter time after the Sochi Olympics.

"I would rather support the previous system of daylight-saving time. For the time being, the question has not been raised officially, but should be raised again after the 2014 Sochi Olympics," the MP said, speaking at the Duma on Wednesday during debates on a proposed bill "On time zones".

“Russia is the host country of the 2014 Sochi Olympics and contracts have been signed on broadcasting the Olympic events. Therefore, the problem needs discussion in a delicate regime so as not to thwart the broadcasts of the Olympic events scheduled for time which is in force in Russia now,” Sobko said.
