LONDON, September 25. (Itar-Tass) – A Somali-born UK citizen was arrested in Kenya: the authorities suspect him to be involved in the recent hostage situation in Westgate mall in Nairobi, said an official representative of United Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry.

The representative did not comment on the suspect’s arrest, but said that local authorities were ready to give him consular assistance.

The Daily Mail reported that 35-year-old suspect was detained by the Kenyan police at passport control in Nairobi airport: he was scheduled to depart the country on an Turkish airline jet. The detainee was acting suspiciously, his face was bruised and he was wearing shades. He explained his condition by an accident which happened during his recent visit to Somalia.

Kenyan security services are interrogating the suspect. His British passport is reportedly valid, it has a Kenyan visa, but there is no border control stamp, thus making it impossible to determine how the British citizen crossed the border.
