Moscow holds fair, democratic mayoral elections, Sobyanin's spokesperson says

MOSCOW, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - The elections staff of Moscow mayoral candidate Sergei Sobyanin has given high marks in evaluating Sunday’s election race, the staff’s head, State Duma deputy speaker Lyudmila Shvetsova told reporters after the voting had completed.

“We can be absolutely confident that the main task we set for our elections has been achieved. We should have shown ourselves, Russia and the world that we can hold democratic and fair elections in a civilized manner,” she said adding that it was till early to speak about the election results..

Shvetsova told Itar-Tass that no complaints concerning election violations had been received from observers and the public office monitoring the Moscow mayoral race also registered no serious violations.

Sobyanin’s elections staff delegated 5,000 observers to Moscow’s polling stations.
