For their golden Sun, as his brother-officers called major Sergey Solnechnikov, they received the golden star. In the triumphal hall of the panoramic museum Stalingrad Battle in Volgograd the parents of the major, who sacrificed his life saving soldiers, received the Hero of Russia order for his son. Sergey Solnechnikov died on March 28. During a military exercise in the Far East, a grenade thrown by one of the soldiers bounced back into a group of conscripts. Their commander, Solnechnikov, covered the grenade with his body before it exploded. He was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save him.Sergey Solnechnikov was buried with military honors in his home town of Volzhsky and was posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia, Russia's highest honor.
