Medvedev unveils a bridge to link Russky Island to mainland Vladivostok

Russian Prime Minister attends an opening for the bridge across Eastern Bosphorus connecting September APEC summit venue to mainland

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev unveiled the new bridge across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait (Bosfor Vostochny), connecting mainland Vladivostok and Russky Island.Medvedev arrived at Far East to inspect the construction of facilities which is underway as Russia is preparing to host an APEC summit in September.The bridge will ensure all-season transport communication as well as create preconditions for city’s expansion south.The state-of-the-art bridge is one of the biggest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Its central bay is 1,104 meters long, which is a world record. On Monday, two lanes on the bridge have been opened for traffic in a test mode. It is planned to open it for public and city transport on August 1.Prime Minister Medvedev noted that the bridge across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait “has already become a hallmark of the city”.
