Russian baritone and soviet crooner Eduard Khil dies in hospital shortly after stroke

The famous Soviet singer Eduard Khil, known to the Western audience as “Mr. Trololo” died in St. Petersburg after a stroke in late May. Khil became an internet sensation thanks to a half-century old song "I Am So Happy to Finally Be Back Home". Downloaded on YouTube it drew attention of millions of users and became an instant hit. The vintage video to the wordless song earned Eduard Khil a nickname “Mr. Trololo”, due to the tune and his melodious style of singing. Khil started his music career in the 1960s and soon became very popular. He was one of the few soviet artists to perform in Europe and the US. While working in Rasputin cabaret in Paris he appeared before Mireille Mathieu and France’s 21st President, François Mitterrand. Eduard Khil recommenced his stage activity aged 75 and performed down the recent times.
