Margin between Hollande, Sarkozy getting narrow in first round

PARIS, April 23 (ITAR-TASS) - The margin between Francois Hollande and Nicolas Sarkozy is getting narrower, the French Interior Ministry reported.

According to updated election results, the margin between the Socialist candidate and the incumbent president is just one percent of votes. Hollande gained 27.95% of votes, Sarkozy polled 26.86% in the first round of the presidential elections on Sunday.

The leader of the National Front Marine Le Pen, who came third, got 19.06% of votes, according to the ministry. This is a record result for this rightist party in the presidential elections.
