LONDON, July 2 (Itar-Tass) - Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden said in a letter to Ecuador that the United States was illegally persecuting him.
He also thanked Ecuador for helping him get to Russia and for examining his asylum request, Reuters reports.
He noted he was able to publish information that serves the public interest.
Snowden arrived from Hong Kong at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport on June 23. The next day he was expected to fly out from Moscow for Cuba. However, he did not board the plane. He is believed to remain in the transit area at the airport. The Sheremetyevo security service told Itar-Tass that Snowden formally did not cross the Russian border.
