KALININGRAD, June 29 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is ready to build another three or four frigates (11356) with improved characteristics, Anatoly Isaikin, the director general of the Rosoboronexport arms trading company, said on Saturday.
Earlier on Saturday, Isaikin attended a ceremony where Russia handed over the third INS Trikand frigate to the Indian Navy.
The Trikand was built by the Yantar shipbuilding plant at the Unified Shipbuilding Corporation.
“Rosoboronexport has fulfilled its 2006 contract for the construction of a second shipment of three modernized frigates (11356 project) armed with BrahMos missiles produced by a Russian-Indian enterprise.
"If necessary, we are ready to build another three or four Trikand frigates with improved characteristics for our Indian partners,” Isaikin said.
"Frigates (11356 project) have been in service with the Indian Navy for the past ten years. They have considerably increased the navy’s defensive capacity and enabled it to solve a wide spectrum of tasks,” Rosoboronexport’s general director said.
“Russian designers keep modernizing the ships all the time,” Isaikin added.
