KAZAN, June 27 (Itar-Tass) Head of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov has opened a bridge across the Kazanka river -a tributary of the Volga, in Kazan on Thursday. After the reconstruction the width of the bridge and a nearby one- kilometer dyke has more than doubled. The through capacity of the bridge rose to 15,000 vehicles per day.
"The reconstructed bridge is the main transport artery in the city. The bridge connects the two halves of the city with the Universiade village, where the athletes will live, on the one side, and the Kazan Arena stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games will be held, on the other side, Minnikhanov said.
Workers fulfilled a large amount of work, which began in 2011, within a short period of time, and used 3.2 billion roubles worth of investments into the reconstruction project, Minnikhanov said.
All in all eleven two-level traffic overpass corridors and more than 30 underpasses and zebra crossings have been built on motorways in the framework of the preparations for the Games.
The Universiada 2013 Student Games will be held on July 6-17 with participants competing in 27 kinds of sport.
