Dagestan legislator detained for connection to militants

The administration of the Dagestan leader confirmed the information but declined to comment

MAKHACHKALA, June 27 (Itar-Tass) - Police in Dagestan have detained a member of the local parliament suspected of connection to the militants. Magomed Magomedov, head of the parliament's committee for ethnic relations and affairs of public and religious organizations was detained in Makhachkala during a break in the session.

"According to preliminary information, the legislator was detained for connection to participants in illegal paramilitary formations," a law-enforcement source told Itar-Tass.

The administration of the Dagestan leader confirmed the information but declined to comment.
