SOFIA, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - More than half of Bulgaria’s population support the idea of laying the South Stream gas pipeline project across the country’s territory, as follows from a WorldThinks survey.

The pollster questioned 500 respondents to discover that 68 percent of Bulgarians welcome this project and that 93 percent of them know about this project or have heard something about it. South Stream supporters are found in the group aged over 55 (77 percent). A mere five percent said they were against the idea.

About 75 percent of Bulgarians are certain that South Stream would benefit their country.

Fifty eight Bulgarian citizens like the idea of more oil and gas pipelines being laid to deliver fuels to the Middle East. Fifty four percent argue that pipelines should be laid between Bulgaria and Russia.
