Russian, US, UN diplomats meet in Geneva to pave way for conference on Syria

The first round of three-party consultations with the same lineup was held in Geneva on June 5

GENEVA, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russian, U.S. and U.N. diplomats once again got together in Geneva on Tuesday to pave the way for an international conference on Syria.

Russia is represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov.

The U.N. is represented by U.N./LAS Special Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. The U.S. delegation is led by Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman.

The first round of three-party consultations with the same lineup was held in Geneva on June 5, and its participants failed to coordinate all positions and agree on the timeframe and the procedure of the conference aimed at launching the process of a peaceful settlement in the country.

The two main issues on which they failed to find the common ground were the format in which the opposition will be represented and the list of the countries that should be invited.
