FMS to bar entry into Russia to 500,000 migrant offenders

Federal Migration Service takes active measures to regulate the inflow of foreign citizens

MOSCOW, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's Federal Migration Service plans to bar entry into the country to half a million migrant offenders by the end of this year, FMS director Konstantin Romodanovsky told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"We've restricted entry into the Russian Federation to more than 100,000 migrants. It's a significant indicator. If we bring it up to 400,000 to 500,000, we'll dramatically change the picture," he underlined.

The FMS has been taking active measures to regulate the inflow of foreign citizens, including by barring the entry into Russia to "those who stayed in the country for a long time without informing the FMS."

"These people, when denied entry into Russia, will have to stay back and wait for three years before entering again.

The migration flow to Russia has increased by 30 percent recently. "Too many arrivals are seeking high-skilled jobs; there are too many youths. There's a large number of violations, especially in large cities," Romodanovsky said.
