Ukrainian car racer Vadim Nesterchuk dies of dehydration in Rub al-Khali desert

ABU DHABI, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - Ukrainian car racer Vadim Nesterchuk has died of dehydration in the Rub al-Khali, the United Arab Emirates, Ukrainian media said.

Nesterchuk was on a training session in the desert, when his vehicle sank into the quick sand. The racer and his assistant failed to recover the vehicle. Nesterchuk, 42, had to start a trek on foot in search of help to die of dehydration. Nothing is said about the plight of his assistant.

Nesterchuk has repeatedly participated in Dakar and Silk Road races.

Nesterchuk was the founder and pilot of the first Ukrainian team "Sixt Ukraine" / it was named after its leasing company /, which since 2008 has performed in rally-raids. At these competitions, he made ​​his debut in 2007. Since 2009, he participated in the rally series "Dakar" "Silk Road", as well as in the rally-raid "Dakar". The last "Dakar" 2013 was the sixth in the sports career of Nesterchuk.
