ISLAMABAD, June 25 (Itar-Tass) - Russian mountain climbers have been evacuated from Gilgit-Baltisan, northern Pakistan, by Pakistan Air Force planes, and will shortly fly to Moscow, the press service of the Russian Embassy to Pakistan said on Tuesday.
“Almost all mountain climbers from Russia staying in Gilgit have already been airlifted by country’s military-transport planes to Islamabad. They have been accommodated at hotels and will shortly go to Russia,” the sources said.
It has also become known that one of the climbers refused to be evacuated and has stayed in Gilgit to climb one of the local mountains.
Overnight to June 23, an armed group attacked an international camp of mountain climbers in Gilgit-Baltisan. According to local media reports, ten people were killed. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan movement claimed responsibility for that attack.
