ISLAMABAD, June 24 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Embassy to Pakistan has not received a request to evacuate Russian mountain climbers from Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan, the embassy press service reports from Islamabad.
“As of the present moment, we have received no requests concerning the evacuation from Gilgit of all Russian mountain climbers,” a source said. “If we receive such a request, we will immediately begin working it up with the Pakistani side,” the press service said.
The source said that at the present moment there are no grounds for sending additional aircraft to that mountainous area of Pakistan taking into consideration the fact that the group of Russian tourists is small.
“The Pakistani side has already informed us that they will offer all necessary assistance for the evacuation of Russian tourists from Gilgit,” the diplomat said. This pledge also concerns the nationals of other countries staying in Gilgit.
Overnight to June 23, an armed group attacked an international camp of mountain climbers in Gilgit-Baltisan. According to local media reports, ten people were killed. The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan movement claimed responsibility for that attack.
