MOSCOW, June 24 (Itar-Tass) - World-known gun designer Mikhail Kalashnikov is under planned treatment in the Mandryk scientific medical centre in Moscow, the head of the Defence Ministry’s military medical department, Alexander Fisun, said on Monday.
On Sunday, General Kalashnikov was airlifted by an EMERCOM plane from Izhevsk to Moscow's Ramenskoye airport. Then, a vehicle of the Russian emergency medicine centre of the Health Ministry carried the patient to the clinic.
The famous 93-year-old gunsmith is under retreatment in the clinic now, Fisun said, adding that the patient was in heavy, but stable condition.
Kalashnikov is under the care in the intensive therapy unit for the present. There is no need for serious operations so far, the official said. He noted the high professional level of the doctors in Izhevsk, those who conducted the airlifting operation and who rendered first aid to the patient.
