Lithuanian Foreign Minister confirms death of Lithuanian climber in Pakistan

At night a group of armed militants broke into the hotel where climbers rested and inflicted fire damage

VILNIUS, June 24 (Itar-Tass) - Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius has confirmed the death of Lithuanian citizen Ernestas Marksaitis in the north of Pakistan when militants of the Tehrit-e Taliban Pakistan alliance attacked the climbers’ camp.

“Lithuania was taken notice of the death of its citizen from the Hungarian Embassy, which represents Lithuania’s interests in Pakistan,” Linkevicius told national radio on Monday.

Ten foreign tourists intended to climb the Nanga Parbat Mountain. On Saturday evening upon the return from Diamer Bhasha climbers decided to pass the night in one of the private hotels. At night a group of armed militants broke into the hotel where climbers rested and inflicted fire damage. Tourists’ things have been stolen.

Gilgit police used helicopters to search for the attackers.

The Tehrit-e Taliban Pakistan movement took responsibility for the murder of foreign tourists in the area of Gilgit-Baltistan in the north of Pakistan.
