ISLAMABAD, June 23 (Itar-Tass) - In northern Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan a night earlier were killed a citizen of the Russian Federation, five Ukrainians, three Chinese and one Pakistani. The identity and nationality of one more victim are being cleared now, the police spokesman told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
Ten tourists planned to climb the top Nanga Parbat - one of the most complicated tops in the world. On Saturday evening the tourists settled for the night at a private hotel. At night, a group of armed militants stormed into the hotel where the climbers rested, and opened fire on them. The tourists’ property was stolen.
Gilgit’s police are using actively helicopters to search for the attackers. None of the existing extremist groups in Pakistan has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
