MOSCOW, June 22 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian sailors from the ship Mol Comfort that sank in a storm in the Arabian Sea feel well and will soon go back home, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday, June 22.

“The crew of the Mol Comfort that ran into a storm and sank in the Arabian Sea on June 17, consisting of 11 citizens of Russia and one citizen of Ukraine, has been taken to Sri Lanka. Once onshore, the sailors underwent medical examination. All of them are feeling well. Doctors say that they need rest and rehabilitation from the stress,” the ministry said.

The sailors have been put up in the hotel Cinnamon Lake Side and provided with long-distance telephone service to call their families. “The Russian citizens are being given all the necessary assistance by the Russian Embassy in Colombo, which maintains constant contact with the Sri Lankan authorities and the marine agent. After the ship owner and insurance companies have completed all formalities, the Russian sailors will go home shortly,” the ministry said.

The ministry thanked the German ship Yantian Express’ captain and crew for the smooth and well-organised operation to rescue the Russian sailors.

The Mol Comfort broke apart during a violent storm. The crew, which also included 14 Filipinos, had sent alarm signals and left the sinking ship on rescue rafts and boats. They were spotted by the ships sent to the area by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Mumbai.
