ASTRAKHAN, June 21 (Itar-Tass) - Four children have been hospitalized with suspected meningitis in Russia’s southern city of Astrakhan.

The children are in condition of moderate gravity. Their lives are out of danger, Alexander Burkin, the chief physician of the city’s infectious diseases hospital, told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“The children are from one kindergarten. So far, meningitis is a working diagnosis. It will be either confirmed or turned down on Monday, when the test results are ready,” he said.

Since the beginning of the year, as many as 51 people in Astrakhan have had meningitis. “This year, meningitis cases are not so frequent as usual. So, there is no grounds for panic,” Burkin stressed.
