Rosneft, Vitol agree to supply LNG from Sakhalin

The first stage of the LNG plant will produce five million tonnes of liquefied natural gas a year

ST. PETERSBURG, June 21 (Itar-Tass) - Rosneft and Vitol signed the essences of the Sakhalin LNG purchase contract, this was said during a signing of the document in the format of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

According to Rosneft Head Igor Sechin, the first stage of the LNG plant will produce five million tonnes of liquefied natural gas a year.

In his words, after the signing of the contract, Rosneft plans to hand over the whole package of necessary documents to the government. The documents are expected to allow the company to receive an LNG export license.

The contract with Vitol envisages LNG supplies from Sakhalin to the Asia-Pacific region, Sechin said.
