Reports about 62 injured in ammunition explosions denied

The people were examined for various diseases not connected with the blasts

MOSCOW, June 21 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Emergencies Ministry has denied reports of some media that 62 people were injured in explosions at the Volga ammunition test range.

It is not true, the ministry's information department head Oleg Voronov told Itar-Tass.

The 62 people are local residents who have been examined by doctors of the air mobile hospital of the Emergencies Ministry. The people were examined for various diseases not connected with the blasts, he said. Among the people are those who suffer chronic diseases and those who want to undergo a checkup, as the hospital has latest equipment to conduct medical examination under field conditions.

As a result of unsanctioned explosions, 43 people have been injured, including 12 hospitalized, and one person died, according to RME official.

The necessary medical aid is being given to the victims of the explosions.

The only man that died worked at the testing range. He tried to hide in a shelter when explosions started.

On Wednesday, June 19, five explosions had occurred one after another at an open area of the Privolzhskiy testing ground for munitions which belongs to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce near the town of Chapayevsk in the Samara region. The blasts caused a fire. Fire fighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the village of Nagorny and the fire was succesfully put out.
