MOSCOW, June 19 (Itar-Tass) - About 300 unexploded shells have been found in the settlement of Nagorny damaged as a result of explosions at the Chapaevsk military depot in the Samara region in southern Russia, the head of the information department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations said.
Oleg Voronov said work to examine the territory had been completed. “In accordance with the decision of the government commission, the first group of local residents will be able to return to their homes already this evening,” Voronov said. He specified that glaze work is already in progress in the city.
Water is poured on the remaining smoldering fires at the ammunition testing range itself. All in all almost 6,500 people were evacuated from the settlement because of shell explosions. A total of 104 people remain at temporary accommodation centers, including 17 children. The rest of the people stay at their relatives.
According to early reports, 41 people have sought medical assistance and ten of them were hospitalized. Over 1,500 people assisted by 230 units of hardware, including eight aircraft and two fire trains, take part in work to liquidate the aftermath of the emergency situation.
