Group of sex minorities in Petersburg declared "foreign agent"

Organization named The Way Out, which defends the rights of sex minorities, fined for 500,000 rubles

ST.PETERSBURG, June 19 (Itar-Tass) - The St.Petersburg Magistrate court on Wednesday has ruled that an organization named The Way Out, which defends the rights of sex minorities, is "a foreign agent", lawyer Dmitry Bartenev, who represents the interests of this organization, told Itar-Tass.

The court has passed a resolution that "The Way Out" has violated both clauses of Article 19.34 of the Code on Administrative Offences: violation of the order of the activity of NGO which performs the functions of a foreign agent: the organization has not been included in the NGO register and issues printed matter without corresponding instructions, the court said. The court has also administered a fine worth 500,000 roubles.

"We intend to appeal the court resolution at a superior judicial body after we receive a copy of a resolution of the Magistrate court in which its motives are explained," the lawyer said.

The court has adjoined hearings into a criminal case, opened against the director of the organization on charges of administrative offences, until June 25, the lawyer said.
