Capello invited to prolong contract with Russia’s national soccer squad till 2018

Chief coach of Russian team Fabio Capello still considering the offer

MOSCOW, May 30 (Itar-Tass) - The chief coach of Russia’s national soccer team, Fabio Capello, has been invited to prolong the contract with the Russian Football Union till 2018, RFU First Vice-President Nikita Simonian told Itar-Tass.

“Capello has been asked to prolong the contract till 2018. He is still considering it,” Simonian said.

Earlier, Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko voiced the hope that Capello would stay with Russia’s team till 2018, when the country would be hosting the World Soccer Cup.

Some mass media said earlier on Wednesday Capello, 67, had agreed to sign a one-year contract with Paris Saint Germain F.C.

“Capello is out of Moscow now on vacation. We expect him back in July. I met with him less than a month ago. We had a long chat in a restaurant. He said nothing about his plans to leave. I do not believe the rumors, to put it mildly,” Simonian said.

Capello took over the Russian national team in July 2012. Russia have shown very successful performance in the 2014 World Cup group F qualifiers so far. It has lost less points than its rivals.
